Cousins and the Lighthorsemen
He served in both WW1 and WW2.
James Vincent Grant was born in May 1900. The story goes that he lied about his age so that he could join the lighthorse along with his cousin. His mother was furious as he had disappeared and she had heard nothing from him for a few weeks before finding out. He served from 1916 before returning in June 1919.
Later, after working for the army barracks in Paddington he went on to be stationed in Darwin when it was attacked by Japanese forces.
As WW2 was drawing to a close he was asked to fill in for someone in Papua New Guinea for a few weeks. Unfortunately he contract malaria while he was there dying several months later.
