After the death of his son, Marius Olsen Jnr at 1st Bullecourt on 11 April 1917, Danish born, Marius Olsen Snr became a naturalised Australian citizen on 7 July 1917, and enlisted in the AIF (5th Pioneers) on 21 July 1917 at the age of 39, RTA on 10 December 1918.
