Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Archibald was the son of William Biston Frizell and Alice Frizell, of Long Flat, New South Wales. He was born and raised at Wollomombi, near Armidale, New South Wales on Jeogla Station.

He enlisted the same day as his younger brother 1124 Pte. Arthur Frizell who also served in the 33rd Battalion and they were given consecutive regimental numbers. Arthur was killed in a trench raid conducted by the 33rd Battalion on 24 February 1917, aged 27. Archibald, who was a stretcher bearer in the same raid, was present to comfort his younger brother as he died.

Only four months Archibald was killed by a stray shell at Messines on 11 July 1917. The Armidale Express printed a letter to his parents from Lt. Col. Leslie Morshead, the 33rd Battalion C.O. and later commander of the ‘Rats of Tobruk.’

“Mr. Frizell, of Jeogla, has received the following letter from Lt.-Colonel Morshead: "I very much regret that I should have occasion to write to you of the death of your gallant son, Pte. Archibald Frazer Frizell. He was killed in action on 11th July. His grave will be registered by the Graves Registration Unit. I deeply deplore the death of this your second son. He was a splendid man — one in whom the utmost reliance was always placed. He was a willing and cheerful worker, and did his duty manfully and well. In a measure, I can appreciate the tremendous sacrifices you have made for King and Country in the giving of two such sons, and my hope is that the knowledge that they did their duty so well will ever be a source of comfort and solace to you and your people, Officers, non-commissioned officers, and men all join me in offering you and your family most heartfelt sympathy in this great bereavement." — Miss Frizell, of Armidale has received a letter from a friend, stating that her brother, Archie, was killed instantly by a shell bursting at his side. Concussion was the cause of death.”
