Son of Francis Henry Rackstraw and Catherine Rackstraw nee McLeod of Port Welshpool, Victoria. Brother of Kathleen Audrey Rackstraw, Cecil Milbourne Rackstraw, Henrietta Pauline Rackstraw, Ralph Ganeham Rackstraw and Wilfred Rackstraw who returned to Australia on 3 September 1919 having served with the Army Medical Corp
