When his battery in close support of the infantry came under very severe fire at close range, he showed cool courage whilst clearing the casualties and re-organizing the teams. At the time of enlistment he was residing in Spring Street, Melbourne, Victoria

Son of Robert Ray Quail and Emily Quail nee Swan of Hope Street, Geelong West, Victoria. Brother of Robert Arthur Quail who returned to Australia on 28 June  1919 having served with the 14th Field Artillery Brigade.

Commenced return to Australia on 1 May 1919 aboard HT China disembarking on 8 June 1919.

Medals: Military Cross, British War Medal, Victory Medal

Husband of Minnie Quail nee Johannsen. Norman and Minnie married during 1923c In Victoria.
