Cornelius John SCANLAN was born in Camperdown, Victoria in 1890

His parents were Cornelius Keaton SCANLAN & Ellen Mary SMITH who married in Victoria in 1889 - his Father was from Limerick in Ireland and his Mother was from Koroit in Victoria

He had previously served for 4 years with the 20th Light Horse Regiment in Victoria before he enlisted in Sydney on 24th August, 1914 and embarked on the ship 'Star of Victoria] on 20th October, 1914 with the 1st Light Horse Regiment, A Squadron

He was listed as Missing in Action and then as Killed in Action at Gallipoli on 7th August, 1915 - no known grave

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Lone Pine Memorial
