DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY.

Lance-Corporal PHILIP NORMAN (Tommy)   TEARE, of the 27th Battalion, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Teare, of Bay-road, Keswick, has died of gas poisoning, at the age of 21 years and 8 months. He was educated at the Richmond Public School and the Christian Brothers' College. He was for some years in the employ of the late Mr. H. Morrit, optician, and afterwards of the Railways Department. He enlisted in December, 1915. He was highly esteemed by all who knew him.

DIED ON ACTIVE SERVICE

TEARE.— On the 1st November, Lance-Corporal  Phillip Norman Teare, of 27th Battalion, died of

gas poisoning in 17th Casualty Clearing Station, France, aged 24 years 8 months, darling younger

son of Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Teare, Bay-road, Keswick, brother of A. C. Teare, Mrs. M. J. Dwyer,

and Mrs. H. C. Hollard, Keswick.

Far away from those who loved him,

Comrades laid him down to rest,

In a hero's grave he's sleeping,

One of God's brightest and best.
