Biography contributed by Paul Wiebusch

Twemty-three year old Ben Hermann, who was working in New South Waes, rode his horse 600 miles in nine days in order to enlist at Hamilton on 14 August 1914, just ten days after the declaration of war. He was amongst Hamilton's first enlistments.

He served in B Squadron, 4th Light Horse and died in action on 26 August 1916, at Estaires, France.
