Military Cross
'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in carrying out a valuable reconnaissance. Though under heavy fire from a large party of the enemy and several machine guns at close range, he handled his men coolely and obtained valuable information concerning the enemy's dispositions and the nature of the ground. He led the whole of his party back without casualties. His work on previous reconnaissances was of great value.'
