Edward George Lambert
Edward George Lambert was born 9 July 1893 at Towitta, the 3rd son of David Lambert and Mary Jane Baker.
He enlisted on 3 April 1917 on the same day as his brother David Amos Lambert. Edward’s Regimental No. was 1670, David’s Regimental No. was 1671. On enlistment he was 22 years 9 months, occupation farmer, single, religion, Congregational. Note David was Wesleyan. The brothers were both in the 1/43rd battalion and served together..
Embarked “Afric” on 9 June 1916 disembarked Southhampton on 24 July 1916 and left for France on 25 November. Joining him on the “Afric” was his brother Edward and cousins, Ernest Edgar Lambert and Leslie Samuel Lambert. On 8 July 1917 Edward was wounded in action and died that day at the 2nd Australia Casualty Clearing Station, France, a day before his 24th birthday. It is assumed that David was with his brother Edward when he was wounded. Brother David died 3 months later from his wounds.

Edward’s parents lost two of their three sons and therefore two of their six children. The town of Towitta lost 4 out of 7 of those who enlisted, the four were two sets of brothers and cousins.
