Private Samuel Hayward Warke was born at Dalby, Queensland in 1894. He enlisted with the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 23rd June, 1915 as a 21 year old Fireman from Marrickville, Sydney, NSW.

Private Warke joined 4th Battalion at Gallipoli on 4th November, 1915. He was returned to Alexandria then proceeded to & arrived in France on 30th March, 1916.

Private Warke was wounded in action in France on 23rd July, 1916 with GSW to head. He was invalided to England on 20th December, 1916 & admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, England on 22nd December, 1916.

Private Samuel Hayward Warke died at 10 pm on 31st January, 1917 at Epileptic and Paralysis Hospital, Maida Vale, England from wounds received in action in France – gunshot wounds to head.
BOTH men were buried in All Souls Cemetery, Kensal Green, London, England (Chambers (see photo below) was buried on 7th February, 1917 & Warke was buried on 5th February, 1917).
