Campaigns Served:   Western Front

War Service/Promotions:   Disembarked at Plymouth, Devon, England, 3 August 1916 and admitted to 4th Southern General Hospital, Plymouth, with mumps. On 21 November 1916 he proceeded overseas to France via Southampton, Hampshire, England. On 21 August 1917 he was detached for duty with 9 Light Horse Trench Mortar Battalion. Then on 30 August 1917 he was Taken on Strength for this unit. He was wounded in action 12 October 1917, and the next day admitted to the 3rd Field Ambulance with a severe gunshot wound to the back. He was then transferred on 14 October to the 7th Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, France, and transferred back to England on 21 October and admitted to Middlesex War Hospital, Napsbury. He was granted furlough on 23 November 1917 and reported back to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, Wiltshire, England, on 7 December 1917. On 2 February 1918 he was marched in to Overseas Training Brigade. He proceeded overseas to France on 14 April 1918, Admitted to 10th Field Ambulance on 27 May 1918, transferred to the 1st Canadian Hospital on 2 June 1918, embarked to England and admitted to Bailey War Hospital, England on 27 June 1918. Discharged 12 July 1918, and then readmitted to Group Clearing Hospital with gastritis. Transferred to Military Hospital, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, England on 22 October 1918 with inflammation of the knee joint. Discharged 7 November 1918 and embarked on 11 December 1918 for return to Australia. He was discharged from the AIF at Sydney, being declared medically unfit.

Place of Wounding:   Gunshot wound, back, severe, 12 October 1917, Western Front.

Fate:   Returned to Australia per Saxon, 11 December 1918. He married Vera Gertrude Huntley, 16 December 1915, St Barnabas Church of England, George Street West, Sydney, NSW. They divorced.

Place of Death:   13 August 1967, Berowra, NSW.

Place of Burial:   His ashes are in the Holy Trinity Columbarium, Merriwa, NSW
