Thomas Henry Bossense BATTEN was born in September quarter 1897 in Tollesbury, Essex, England
His parents were Thomas John Bassense BATTEN and Alice Ada SPARROW
He arrived in Australia on the ship Demosthenes and had to get special permission to leave the ship to join the Australian Army -the reason being that he didnt think he was doing enogh for his King & Country (info from his Father)
He enlisted in Brisbane on 17th June 1915 with the Australian Army - 28th Battalion - 2nd reinforcements - Unit embarked from Brisbane on HMAT Shropshire on 17th August, 1915
He was Killed in Action on 29th July, 1916, Pozieres, France - No known grave - he is commemorated in the Australian National Memorial, Villers Bretonneux, France and also the Australian War Memorial
Thomas was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal
