Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

The son of Robert and Teresa Bradley of Leichhardt NSW, Herbert Bradley was known to his mates as ‘Pat’ and according to information in his Red Cross file he was a great pugilist. Bradley had married Alice May Talbot in 1909 and he was the father of two girls, aged 6 and 8 years when he died. He was killed by rifle or machine gun fire at Lagnicourt when the outpost he was defending was overrun by an overwhelming number of Germans. Although buried in the field by Australians his grave was subsequently lost.

His brother 2573 Private Robert William Bradley 20th Battalion AIF, was killed in action at Bois Grenier on 5 May 1916, age 34.

Alice and the two girls were awarded a pension.
