Post-war life

Charles returned home from WWI to a welcome and celebration of his safe return attended by many locals and given a hearty welcome. He farmed a solider settlement block at Peronne, west of Goroke where he married is late friends wife, Theresa Jane Bray who was mother to Alf and Audrey Bowles. Charles and Theresa had 3 children of their own, Gladys, Geoffrey Charles and John Maxwell Lock.

His family continue to farm the property to this day, with the land still owned by his daughter in law Gwen and grandson Phillip (2016), 97 years on from Charles return from action. Charles went on to be the grandfather of 12, great grandfather of 30 and great, great grandfather of 7 at this time.

He was a serious, feared and hard working man who was admired and respected throughout the district with regard to farming, football and his dedicated service to his country. His sons and grandsons went on to farm a substantial operation in the district along with being renowned sportsman, primarily football and cricket. Both sons Geoff and John competed compulsory enlistment in the early 1950's at Puckapunyal army barracks.
