Son of Andrew Valentine and Annie Florence Kirwan of Melville Forest, Coleraine, Victoria, Australia.

Brother of Patrick Kirwan. 

Nephew of Kathleen (Katie) Kirwan.

He was in a dugout on the Bapaume line when it suffered a direct hit and was blown to pieces. Alexander was never seen after that.
