Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Silas and Florence SHUTE, Lane Cove Road, Turramurra, New South Wales

REST IN PEACE

He was a clerk in the office of J. Connellan, a solicitor in Crookwell, for about eighteen months. He served as a clerk in a Government Savings Bank in Temora, NSW for about two years and then in Moore Street, Sydney for about two and a half years.

Among the names of the latest list of Australian casualties in France appears the name of Private M.G.M. Shute.  Private M.G.M. Shute, son of Mr. S. Shute, headmaster of the Warrawee Public School, and Mrs. Shute, of Lane Cove Road, Turramurra, who was killed in action betewen August 8 and 9, was 21 years of age.  He was on the staff of the Moore Street Government Savings Bank.  Mr. Shute, our readers will remember, was for many years headmaster of Crookwell Public School, being transferred to the Wollongong district a little over four years ago.  Mervyn was the youngest of three sons, and was a smart, intelligent lad of much promise, and a universal favourite.  We extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved parents, who, how ever, may be consoled by the fact that their son gave his young life for King and country, and for the maintenance of right and justice.
