Son of Mrs Sarah Taylor, Sebastopol, Victoria

Arthur Ernest Taylor (SN 6589) was born in Sebastopol and enlisted in Perth on 9th April 1916 as a 27-year-old, single, Labourer. Arthur was the fourth son on William (Dec) and Sarah Taylor. A brother to David, Hiram, Stanley, Edwin, Leslie and Mrs A Sully and Mrs H. Clemson. He was allocated to the 21st Reinforcements, 16th Battalion, and embarked on the HMAT A39 Port Macquarie in Fremantle on 13th October, disembarking at Plymouth, England, on 12th December He arrived in France on 9th February 1917. After two of periods in hospital, Arthur was killed on 8th August 1918, the first day of the Battle of Amiens, the final push that ended the war. Arthur has no known grave and is recorded on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.

Pte Taylor, killed in action in France on 8th August, was the fourth son of Mrs and the late Wm. Taylor, of Victoria street, Sebastopol. He was born at  Sebastopol and educated at the Sebastopol State school. Later he went to West Australia, where he enlisted in the 16th Battalion, and sailed for the Front in October, 1916. The fallen soldier was single and 29 years of age. His three brothers offered their services but were rejected.
