Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Micheal only enlisted 4 months before he died at the age of 20. He joined up on the same day as his younger brother, 5145 Pte. William Richard McManus 16th Battalion AIF who was killed in action at Pozieres, aged 18, only a few months after the death of Michael.

Their parents were the Irish born James Patrick and Annie McManus, of Northam, Western Australia.
