Son of William Adam Cooper and Hannah Cooper nee Coleman of Cora, Victoria

Husband of Ethel Cooper of Rushworth, Victoria 

Previously enlisted in October 1914 but discharged during November 1914 as it was considered that he would not become an effective soldier. A letter from  Walter dated November 1914 showed he requested to be discharged as his wife was struggling living on the farm with four children, the youngest being eighteen months old 

Commenced return to Australia on 24 July 1919 aboard HT Bakara disembarking on 27 September 1919
