Alex grew up in Melbourne's inner east, the child of a British emigrant and a Collingwood girl. He enlisted age 20 and was discharged aged 21 due to deafness. Alex then settled in Richmond where he married Edith Claire Lumley and had 6 children, 5 of whom survived into adulthood. Alex's profession was listed as a metal spinner & polisher. Alex died in 1963 in Research, in Melbourne's north.
