Son of George Townsend Cotterill and Dora Gifford Cotterill of Campbelltown, NSW formerly of Edward Street, Young, NSW. Brother of Marjorie Cotterill, William Ernest Cotterill who returned to Australia on 12 June 1919 having served with the 2nd Battalion and Herbert A.L. Cotterill
