Edward Yarram Winchelsea SIMMONS was born in 1895 in Stawell, Victoria near the town of Portland
His parents were Edward James SIMMONS and Sarah SPEARS
Edward had previous service with the 73rd Battalion (Victorian Rangers) for 18 months prior to his enlistment in WW1
He enlisted on 6th July, 1915 - 23rd Battalion - 7th reinforcements. Unit embarked from Melbourne on 26th Nov. 1915 on the ship HMAT Commonwealth - Later he transferred to the 58th Battalion & was promoted to Lance Corporal
He was Killed In Action on 15th July 1916 in Fleurbaix, France and is buried in Rue Petillon Military Cemetery in France.
