Born in Hobart in 1884, Pte James Joseph Guest, a carter/labourer appears to have struggled with troublesome legs throughout his life, from being described as having "scars over both knees" and "bow legged" on his Medical Examination through to the severe Thrombosis that was to continue throught the War and after.
Part of the 7th Reinforcements for the famous 40th Battallion AIF, Private Guest was determined to do his part. he struggled with Myalgia and thrombosis throughout his time overseas and after being wounded in action on June 5th 1918 he was in and out of hospital and finally, returned to Hobart.
Private Guest married soon after returning home and along with his wife Violet, had three children, Daphne, Robert and William.
