Add my storyBiography
John James (Jim) Mounsey enlisted when things were in full swing at Gallipoli. He spent the war fighting on the Western Front. He was wounded at the Somme in the Mouquet Farm push. A shell shock injury to his back according to his service record. I don't have a lot of information on my Great Grandfather. My mother never met him. He was married to my Great grandmother, but he struggled after returning from the war. They got divorced. All I know is that he died in 1952 in the streets of Footscray after having a heart attack and falling into the gutter. The story goes that passing people thought he was drunk and did not do anything to help him.
Please note, I am searching for his war medals. I don't need to have them, but I would like to know that they are somewhere and are being treated with the respect that they deserve. If anyone has any information on their whereabouts please contact me (Dr Tim Anson) through the University of Adelaide.
