Frederick Freeman came out to Australia from England in about 1911 with his brother Arthur Freeman. Frederick was working as a cook at the Belmont hospital in Perth, Western Australia when he enlisted. Arthur was working in Brisbane, Queensland and enlisted there. They were killed in action within weeks of one another at Pozieres. The younger brother, 5089 Pte. Arthur Freeman 49th Battalion was reported killed on 5 September 1916, aged 23, just a month after Frederick’s death, age 27. They were the sons of James Ellis Freeman and Hannah Freeman, of 13 G, Peabody Buildings, Rodney Rd., Walworth, London, England.
