Son of Matthew Vienna and Jane Vienna nee Carroll of Wellington Street, Geelong West, Victoria.

Brother of William George Vienna who died of wounds received while serving with the 29th Battalion on 25 November 1916 and is buried in the Heilly Station Cemetery Plot V1, Row C, Grave 18

Commenced return to Australia on 31 May 1919 aboard HT Aeneas disembarking on 12 July 1919
