Distinguished Conduct Medal
'During the period 10 to 20 September, 1918, north east of Vermand, he did splendid work. On the evening of 12 September, he located an enemy machine gun post, and with five other men tried to outflank it. In doing so they encountered fifty of the enemy; he at once, placing the Lewis gun on the shoulder of his No. 2 opened fire, inflicting casualties, and causing the hostile party to retire, leaving eight prisoners and the gun.'
