Jacques was Mentioned in despatches at Anzac, “Served throughout the whole period at Anzac and specially distinguished himself by leading an attack of 20 men at Leane’s Trench and succeeding in bringing in all his wounded. Has done excellent work as platoon sergeant.”

He was promoted to Company Sergeant Major after Gallipoli and was the wounded, shell shock, at Pozieres. He then suffered multiple shrapnel wounds on 30 July 1918 near Strazeele and died of wounds the next day.
