During 1915, in order to recruit young Australian men, patriotic marches were begun in towns and rural communities. There were 10 of these, one of which commenced in Warwick, SE Qld on the 16th November, 1915 and arrived in Brisbane on the 30th November, 1915. It was known as the "March of the Dungarees".
H. Wynn Pierpoint was one of the original 28 marchers who left Warwick. By the time the "Dungarees" had reached Brisbane after travelling 270 kilometres (170 miles) over 13 days, this number had grown to 125 men. A commemmorative plaque was erected in Warwick QLD in 1998.
