Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Lieutenant Percival Francis Vere Turner 4th Battalion AIF was wounded at the landing on Gallipoli on the 26 April 1915, gunshot wound to the ankle. He was evacuated to England to hospital and eventually returned to Australia on the 7 November 1915, due to the wound and acute rheumatism. He was discharged from the AIF in Australia as permanently unfit on the 28 July 1916. He re-enlisted in the Australian Flying Corps in late 1916 and embarked again for England in January 1917. He gained his pilots certificate and was with 4 Squadron Australian Flying Corps. He resigned his commission in England on the 6 November 1917, being found as permanently medically unfit for war service, at home or abroad. He had married in 1917 and his wife was living in England. As he discharged there, he forfeited his right of passage back to Australia. He did return to Australia at some stage as he was living in St Kilda Victoria in 1927. He stated on his enlistment papers that he was a Master at the Sydney Grammar College.
