Son of Edward Upton and Anne Upton of Willow Tree, NSW.
1 November 1916 - enlisted at Sydney with the Field Artillery Brigade Reinforcements and with the rank of Private
3 November 1916 - transferred to the 22nd Howitzer Brigade with the rank of Gunner
1 December 1916 - promoted to Driver
23 October 1917 - transferred to the 4th Divisional Ammunition Column
24 October 1917 - transferred to the 10th Field Artillery Brigade
17 March 1919 - commenced return to Australia aboard HT Plassy disembarking on 3 May 1919
Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
2 June 1919 - discharged at the 2nd Miltary District as medically unfit due to myalgia
