Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Harry Lee was the son of Wheatley and Mary Lee of Wagin, Western Australia. He enlisted at 20 years of age having served with the 88th Infantry Cadets. His father had passed away in 1912, when Harry was about 17 years old.

He was reported missing during the heavy fighting at Mouquet Farm on 3 September 1916. He was confirmed as killed in action during February 1917.

Harry’s remains were found in May 1923, and identified along with 13 other soldiers of the 51st Battalion and six unknown Australian soldiers. They were all reinterred in Avuley Wood Cemetery.

With Harry were two identification discs, and both were sent to Mary Lee in Wagin during late 1923, despite their impaired condition.

Harry’s younger brother, 8011 Private Gerald Lee, also enlisted in 1916 when 19 years of age and also served in the 51st Battalion.
