Biographical details:
Charles was the son of William Smith and Mary Jane Higginson. Charles did his basic training with the 2nd Tunnelling Corps and left Australia with his unit, No.2 Mining Corps on 20 February 1916. He served in France throughout the duration of the war. Charles was appointed 2nd Corporal on 10 December 1917. He was granted leave from 19 January to 4 February in 1918.
