Son of William Frank Osland  and Elizabeth Jane Osland of 'Brunkerville', East Maitland, NSW.

Brother of William Wesley Osland who was killed in action on 7 June 1917 while serving with the 36th Battalion and has no known grave. His name appears on Menin Gate, Ypres, Panel 25

Commenced return to Australia on 17 March 1919 as wounded aboard HT Plassy disembarking on 2 May 1919
