War Service/ Promotions: Appointed Lance Corporal to complete establishment, 20 November 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, from Southampton, England, on 22 November 1916. Promoted to Pay Sergeant with 36th Battalion, on 10 January 1917. Transferred from 36th Battalion to Australian Army Pay Corps. on 13 April 1917 (still attached to 36th Battalion). On leave from 21 July to 30 July 1917, in Paris, France. Rejoining his unit he remained in France until 9 February 1918, when he went on leave to United Kingdom, until 28 February 1918. On 4 May 1918 Cecil was on detachment to 3rd Australian Divisional Units in France. From 24 November to 8 December 1918, he was on leave in United Kingdom, returning to France and was attached now to 3rd Australian Army Pay Corps. On 1 January 1919, he was promoted to Temporary Staff Sergeant, dated 16 February 1919. By 31 May 1919 he was appointed a Temporary Staff Sergeant with the Chief Paymaster in London, and left France. He was on leave from 16 June to 24 June 1919.
Fate: Returned to Australia 19 July 1919, on the Takada. He married Margaret Young Shannon, 29 November 1924, St Mary's Church, Toongabbie, NSW.
