Irvine Roy Hill was born in Mallala, in South Australia, and he was brought up in a house with his parents that including his mom, Martha Eliza Hill.
Before enlisting in the army, Irvine was employed as an Engineer. During August 1925 aged 25 years old, he chose to enlist in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). He served on the Western Front and was wounded. He was medically unfit to continue service and was sent back to Australia, arriving home in December 1917
In 1919, Hill married Alida Olive Cope at the Methodist Church Prospect. The couple moved to Riverina New South Wales and lived there during the 1930's, before moving to Wollongong New South Wales in the 1940's. Hill died 22 April 1922 in Unanderra Wollongong.
