Bill was the second of seven children of William O'Mara (b1842 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Margaret Lucy Donnelly (b1852 in County Louth, Ireland). William (a Carrier) and Margaret married in Melbourne, Victoria 1874 and moved with their family to Perth WA in the late 1890s.
Bill worked in Perth WA with his father as a Carrier before becoming a Horse/Cab Driver. He was a Jockey and Horse Breaker in June 1915 when he enlisted in the AIF (Trooper/Private; Service No:1264). Bill served with 10th Light Horse Regiment in Egypt and was Discharged in October 1917. Older brother Jack served in the Boer War and younger brother Mat was KiA in WWI.
Returning to WA, Bill worked as a Farm Hand in Beverley and a Wool Roller in Perth. In 1924 he married Zoe Hansen and they settled in Perth where Bill was a Labourer. Zoe died in 1949 and Bill in 1950.
