Recommendation for a Military Medal
"In Headquarters Lines near RAVELSBERG on the 21st inst. during constant bursts of fire from H.V.Guns, L/Cpl WOOLF hooked his horses into a loaded G.S. Wagon to draw it clear of the lines. While attempting to move off two salvoes of H.V. Shells landed between 20 and 30 yds. from the wagon causing the two H.D. Horses to bolt along the corduroy road, although on the ground L/Cpl WOOLF gallantly hung onto to his horses ad, after being dragged for a considerable distance brought the horses to a standstill by running them into a ditch on the other side of the road at the imminent danger of pulling the wagon over on top of him. He was ordered to unhook; later he returned with extra horses and again after hooking in, a section salvo of H.V.Shells landed in close proximity to the wagon. As the horses were again becoming unmanageable, he was again ordered to unhook. He returned again later and at the third attempt although still under intermittent bursts of fire succeeded in pulling his wagon clear of the lines. Throughout the whole of this time his gallantry and entire disregard of personal danger was a stirring example to the other drivers."
