Son of Charles Upton and Annie Elizabeth Upton of Station House, Molong, NSW. Brother of Gregory Cowell Upton who returned to Australia on 26 June 1919 having served with the 12 Light Horse Regiment.
15 February 1915 - enlisted at Liverpool, NSW, with the 18th Battalion and with the rank of Private.
29 March 1915 - promoted to Lance Corporal
22 August 1915 - wounded in action. Wound to the right knee
11 March 1916 - commenced return to Australia aboard HS Suevic disembarking on 22 April 1916
Medals: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal
15 July 1916 - discharged at the 2nd Military District as medically unfit
During 1934c Kenneth married Kitty M. Cormack in Woollahra, NSW
