Obituary and Funeral details

MR. E. R. ALLEN
The funeral took place in the Delornaine General Cemetery yesterday or Mr. Edward Roy Allen, who collapsed and died suddenly at his residence, Barrack St., Deloraine, on Tuesday. There was a large representative attendance. Rev. A. E.
Chamberlain conducted the service, and the Deputy Warden (Cr. D. J. Griffin) read the R.S.L. burial ritual.
Mr. Allen, who was widely known in Deloraine. where he practised as an accountant, held a state-wide reputation for his ability as a mathematician. In his youth he excelled in sport. In running on one occasion at Franklin he won a double, consisting of the Franklin Gift and the quarter mile. He was a keen cricketer and an excellent footballer.
Enlisting in the 1st A.I.F.. he served abroad for over three years during the Great War. Among other places he served in France with the 4Oth Battallon. He had resided in the Deloraine district for about 25 years.
He leaves a wife, Mrs. J. C. Allen, two daughters. Mrs. E. Donoghue and Miss M. Allen, Deloraine, and a son, Mr. D. Allen.
At the funeral Cr. J. D. Peters represented the Deloraine Council and Cr. D. J. Griffin the Deloraine sub-branch of the R.S.L. The carriers were Messrs. H. Marshall, A. K. Butters. C. Gleeson, C. Kerslake.
Three pallbearers' were Messrs. D. J. Griffin, A. G. Kempton. M. Kidd, E Cohen,. M. Roles, and W. Sherriff.
The chief mourners were Messrs. L, Cunningham (brother-in-law), B.
Donoghue (son-in-law) and J. Bryant (nephew).
The funeral arrangements were conducted by B. J. Cameron, Deloraine.
