Private Archibald William Hunt (Service No:1113) enlisted in the AIF on 2 April 1915, and was attached to 26th Infantry Battalion when he embarked with his Unit from Tasmania for QLD on 20 June 1915 on board HMAT Ascanius. Private Hunt then embarked from Brisbane on 29 June 1915 on board HMAT A60 Ascanius, returning to Tasmania on 8 November 1915 - invalided. There is no record of his RTA or Discharge, however in extensive correspondence between the Army and Private Hunt's wife (Mabel) in 1921 in the course of a War Gratuity Application, the Army states that Private Hunt had no Overseas Service and that he went AWoL from Enoggera Camp in Brisbane in November 1915 (NAA).
Archie was born in Launceston, Tasmania in 1884, eldest of five children of William Satturley Hunt (b1859 in Bothwell, Tasmania) and Emmaline Theresa Plummer (b1865 at Battery Point, Tasmania). William (a Farmer) and Emmaline married in Launceston in 1882, and lived at Blackwall via Beaconsfield where William was a Farmer.
Archie worked as a Traveller, and in 1907 in Launceston married Mabel Gertrude Smith (b1888 in Launceston, Tasmania). Archie and Mabel settled in Blackwall and Lanena via Beaconsfield, where they raised their family and Archie was a Traveller until his death in 1938. Mabel later remarried, and died in 1977.
