Died on this date - 4th July......Private James Ivo Perry was born at Richmond, Victoria in 1883. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 3rd March, 1916 as a 31 year old, married, Gardener's Labourer from Bentleigh, Victoria.

Private Perry arrived in England on 2nd September, 1916 for further training & was posted to 2nd Training Battalion at Perham Downs, Wiltshire.

Private Perry arrived in France in October, 1916 & joined 7th Battalion at the Front on 3rd November, 1916. He was admitted to Hospital at Amiens on 28th November, 1916 with Bronchitis & finally rejoined his Battalion on 1st January, 1917.
Private Perry was admitted to 1st Divisional Rest Station on 19th March, 1917 with Rheumatism & was discharged & rejoined his Battalion on 1st April, 1917.

Private James Ivo Perry was wounded in action on 20th September, 1917 with GSW to his legs. He was invalided to England on 28th April, 1918 & admitted to Reading War Hospital, Berkshire, England on 29th April, 1918 with gunshot wounds to right & left thighs, Perinalum & Urethra – dangerously ill.

Private James Ivo Perry died at 7 pm on 4th July, 1918 from wounds received in action – “1. Gunshot wounds to Perineum & 2. Ascending infection of Kidneys – septic absorbtion.”

He was buried in Reading Cemetery, Reading, Berkshire in Plot 72. Those buried in Plot 72 & buried in other parts of the cemetery that do not have headstones marking their graves are named on the Memorial Screen Wall located near the Cross of Sacrifice. Their deaths are still acknowledged by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

There are 16 other WW1 Australians buried in Reading Cemetery.
