GALLANT SOLDIER FALLS
After having been mentioned in despatches twice for his services in
the Gallipoli campaign, and been awarded the Military Medal and the
Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallantry in France, Company-Sergeant-Major William B. Hatton has been killed in action.
He was the eldest son of Mr G. F. Hatton, Argyle street, Moonee
Ponds, and left Australia with the 3rd (NSW) Battalion. The official
records show that he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal
"for conspicuous gallantry in action.  He rendered most valuable service in leading patrols, and in clearing dug outs and capturing prisoners." He was killed on October 4.
