Add my storyBiography
Charles Martin Junior embarked from Fremantle on 22 Dec, 1915 on the HMAT Ajana A31, as part of the 12th Reinforcements, 16th Battallion, 2nd Division AIF. Originally born in Malmsbury, Victoria, his father, also named Charles Martin, was a Miner in Victoria, but relocated to Western Australia, becoming Mine Manager at the Great Victoria Gold Mine, via Marvel Lock in Burbidge, WA. Serving on the Western Front, on 27 Nov, 1916, he received a Severe gunshot wound to the Right thigh and was convalesced to England. On 3 July, 1917, he rejoined his Battalion in France. He returned to Australia, via the "Armagh" in May, 1919. Charles' story is a tragic one. He does not appear to have married and died from severe burns as a result of a petrol lamp explosion on 14 Aug, 1928 in Dalwallinu, WA and died several days later in Dalwallinu Hospital from his burns
