Brothers: 1364 Pte Albert John Smith, 51st Bn, died of wounds, 5 July 1916, and 3280 Pte Ernest Sidney Smith, 28th Bn, died of wounds, 8 August 1916.

Mrs. Susannah Harrison of Western Australia lost her three sons Albert, Ernest and Arthur almost exactly one month after each other in July, August and September of 1916.

When the last of her sons, Arthur, went missing in action at the battle of Mouquet Farm on September 3rd 1916, she wrote to the Red Cross desperately seeking any information about his whereabouts, stating 'I have lost two sons in France, one in July and one in August so am naturally very uneasy about this one'. Unfortunately, his body was never recovered and he was posted as missing he was later classified as KIA on 3 September 1916.
