WHITE, Max Andrew (1896-1970)
Max Andrew White was born on 24 March 1896 at Mount Duneed, a son of Frederick Arthur White and Isabel Maude nee Bowman.
He was first educated at Swanston Street State School prior to his enrolment as a day student at Geelong College in February 1910, at which time his address was 8 Sydney Parade, East Geelong. He left College in December 1911.
After the outbreak of World War I, he enlisted (No 1501) with 24 Battalion in the AIF on 17 March 1915, and embarked for Egypt on HMAT A40 Ceramic on 25 June 1915. He served on Gallipoli where he contracted tuberculosis (his family had a history of the disease); he was admitted to 6th Field Ambulance on 21 September, evacuated by HS Dunluce Castle to St Paul's Hospital, Malta, then invalided home on HS Kamala, embarking on 20 January 1916. He was discharged on 2 April 1916.
After his return, he married Doreen Margaret Fairbairn in 1917.
He died on 16 August 1970.
His brother, Percy Frederick White (1898-1973), was also educated at Geelong College.
