Son of George Upton and Caroline Sarah Upton nee Butler of Langwarrin, Victoria.
4 January 1916 - enlisted at Melbourne with the 8th Field Artillery Brigade and with the rank of Private and promoted Gunner when taken on strength.
20 September 1917 - wounded in action. Shrapnel wound to the arm, left side and buttock. Invalided to England on 15 October 1917
16 December 1917 - commenced return to Australia aboard HS Kanowna as wounded disembarking on 13 February 1918
Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
2 April 1918 - discharged at the 3rd Military District as medically unift due to wounding
During 1922c Henry married Marion Siver in Victoria.
