DEATH OF
GRAZIER, 61
Gayndah grazier, Mr. Edward Fassifern Kent, 61 died suddenly in Gayndah yesterday. Only son of the late Fassifern Kent, he owned the 100,000-acre Elyston Station. Mr. Kent, a member of the QTC, and Queensland and Tattersalls Clubs, has left a widow and daughter, Mrs. Jock McLean, of Pinnacle, Mackay.
Mr. E. F. Kent
THE Gayndan district lost one of its leading citizens when Edward Fassifern Kent passed away this week. The late Mr. Kent was born at Degilbo Station in 1893. He was educated at the Maryborough Grammar School and in his youth had a high athletic record, particularly in hurdling and running. After leaving school, he spent two years in Mactaggarts' Brisbane office and then went to Ellerslie Station, Winton.
He enlisted in World War I and while serving overseas with a Divisional Ammunition Column, his father died. On his return from the war, the late Mr. Kent took over Elystan from his mother and until he died owned the 53,000-acre cattle property in partnership with his sister Mrs. R. B. Mcintosh. He played a very prominent part in the public life in his district and was a member of the Gayndah shire council and president of the Gayndah Jockey Club. He conducted a Hereford stud at Elystan and also bred thoroughbreds, two of the horses he bred being in training at the time of his death. He was a member of the Queensland Club, the Q.T.C., and Tattersall's.
