Biography

Born Andrew Herbert Creagh on 09 Nov 1897 at Redfern to John and Alice Creagh

Herbert enlisted at New Farm on 11th September 1915 stating that his age was 18 years and 9 months. He died of wounds whilst serving with the 54th Battalion in France. 

His younger brother 6723 Pte. Jack Creagh (/explore/people/62862) enlisted on 7th August stating his age was 18 years and 6 months. Jack joined the 3rd Battalion in France in May 1917 and was later returned to Australia in 1918 for having enlisted whilst underage. 

"...4758 Private Herbert Creagh, 2nd (later 54th) Battalion of Auburn, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Star of England (A15) on 8 March 1916. He was wounded in action on 15 May 1917 at Riencourt, France, and died of his wounds on 18 May 1917 at the 29th Casualty Clearing Station, France aged 20.
